Alliances At War is an exciting online strategy game, developed and maintained by its players. It is text based and situated in a fantasy world called “Orkfia”. Together with other players in your alliance you will be warring others as they step in your way. The combination of strategy and war is the ultimate challenge in Alliances At War, besides basic stuff like training military, constructing buildings and trying to stay alive.

Game Universe

In times long past, Orkfia used to be a peaceful world of unimaginable beauty and outstreched forests running into infinity. The world was ruled over by the immortal Elves, who existed in a state of bliss together with all that nature had created to live alongside them. This period was known as the Utopic Age, and under the reign of the Elves, civilization grew strong and a long period of serenity made life easy for all inhabitants of Orkfia.

Game Goals

Each alliance strives to conquer the goals set by the Gods. These can vary, but in all cases the time factor is the key. Ages have a beginning and an end, unlike the game. What is unique to Alliances At War in this aspect is that victories during ages are measured against historic victories of other ages.

There is a near unlimited amount of records that can be reached. Strongest, largest, fastest, only the imagination is the limit. Thanks to the persistent nature of Orkfia, these stored records will be possible to collect and compare during the whole career of a player.

As with personal achievements, but taken to an alliance–wide level, all records of each alliance of players are collected and used relative to other alliances. Players will in this sense not only compete individually, but as a team against other groups of players.

Development

Alliances At War is a game of its community, where players are always asking for—even demanding—new and improved features and with admins, coders and players responding to that.

Not only do we continually build and evolve a game, but also a world and universe where the player community is always interacting.

1. Alliances at War Review - by Iluros Rating: 10/10
An Utopia clone started in 2001, Orkfia II: Alliances at War references much of Tolkien's Middle-Earth, though it is not bound to that canon. It has evolved drastically over time to become something much more characteristically its own. Alliances at War is unique compared to similar games due to its fast-paced tempo, the ease of joining and getting into the game any time, the challenge of killing and surviving, and the tight-knit community. Whereas other games have long waiting times of 8 or 12 hours between actions, everything in the Orkfia universe is set to the frame of 4 hours. What this means for the players is your activity is rewarded, and results in explosive growth. The more you sign into the game, the more you can do, and the better your performance will be. The players who play the most benefit the most. The game time is divided into ages, which are each usually six weeks in duration. Players can make a tribe at any point in any age without restriction or penalty, and with a little effort, can quickly enter the competitive field without wasting huge amounts of time trying to catch up to more established alliances of players. Over time, this aspect of the game has been enhanced more and more to optimize both a fair and equal slate for the players new and old, as well as the flexibility to begin play at any point in time. At the end of the age there are always changes bringing greater balance, diversity and dynamism to the gameplay. The development team has taken a relatively simple archetype and expanded it into something vibrant and complex. Players have access to a plethora of options and choices from start to finish and, ceteris paribus, each life span they go through plays out in a different and unique way. Skill is as important to gameplay as activity. Whereas activity influences the rate of your growth and will help you to be online when you become the target of another alliance's wrath, skill determines whether you live or die in the face of the challenges posed to every player. Fierce, cutthroat competition is the difficulty scale for the game. It's your will to survive against that of your enemies' to destroy you. Fortunately there are measures to take to protect yourself, dying will not be easy if your aggressors lack the skill to pull off a quick, clean kill. And if you do die, you don't lose everything. All tribes that die inherit some of the land and power that they possessed prior to their deaths, the most heritage received when dying of old age. Thus, you can rapidly retake what was lost and have your revenge while your enemies have forgotten your threat. The playerbase has dwindled as the popularity of text-based online games defers to that of visual games. This presents some problems and difficulty for the overall balance and competition of the game, but has also forged a hardcore community of players dedicated to Orkfia. Veterans from the very beginning of the game still play today, and are eager to give their advice and wisdom to new players. The bonds of friendship and shared love of Orkfia hold the community close together even as they engage in war.
