n the year 2020, Earth's scientists discover an asteroid the size of Norway on a collision course with Earth.
In the year 2022 a delegation arrived from the planet Xtosven many thousands of light years away from the earth. The plight of the earth for the last few years has been known to the Xtosvenites and they have offered to let one colony inhabit a small region of Xtosven. The first nation on Earth to launch a space shuttle that would reach the outer system of the solar system, would be worthy.
Earth has been thrown into chaos. Nations have risen and fallen in the matter of months. Earth is now a battlefield and it is up to you to escape Doomsday.

How to start (newbs)

First create a player!
On the game page enter a username and password then hit the newplayer button this will generate a new character. After creating a newplayer read all of this. If this doesn’t help then in the game type help

Getting your nation rolling
First we need labs, I recommend 3 as that is how many you can build right now, but it is up to you. You can view what you can build in REPORT TECHNOLOGY but for now it will just be a lab.

repeat if you want 3. Now we need some scientists 100 for each lab. I'm going to assume we built 3 in my example:
educate 300
Now to pick a topic in REPORT RESEARCH, I highly suggest combat training as it can be done in one shot with 3 labs but in the end the choice is yours. Allocate a percentage of your research team to a topic:
allocate 100 combat training

Game Universe

The game universe for the player is earth, within their own country with statuses monitoring their research, units, population and enemies with the goal of escaping earth so they are not obliterated by the oncoming asteroid.

Game Goals

Eventually I'd like to have a much better web client however I am terrible at graphics and web design. The game is pretty fun when a group of players can be assembled together

Development

The game originally existed on undernet in the 90's as an IRC bot and a friend of mine decided to recreate it. They started with C++ but that only last a month and became too complicated. Then they switched perl and we had a working basic game in a week.

That developer gave up after a few months and the game died. I begged them for the source and eventually they gave it to me. At this point this game was also just a single IRC bot on the Blitzed network. I knew that games of this type are a dieing breed and being stuck to one type of medium would limit it to a minimum amount of players so I rewrote the game into a server model and developed clients for it. The game currently works on irc, WWW and telnet.

Currently the game server is a perl server with MySQL background. The web client is a PHP script, the IRC client is perl and so is the telnet server.



Developer's story

I used this project to learn perl a skill which has come in handy time and time again as a system administrator not to mention the fun its been defeating people ingame over the years.
