Game Universe

Ichumon is based around the world Ichua. The world is very magical, and there are always new and interesting things being discovered. The evil nemesis, Corek, is still underground, plotting his way to taking over Ichua. But Dr. Dim and friends are at hand, making sure Ichua is always a safe and well guarded world.

Game Goals

To be as big as Neopets once was (or still is). To provide an environment for everyone, not just cliques and groups. To make working on Ichumon my full-time job.

Development

The Virtual Pet Community is made up of a -lot- of aspiring webmasters, artists, graphic designers, players - the lot. There are sooo many talented people, sooo many ideas and styles out there that it makes making a VPS a whole lot easier than starting anything else. The community is already there, many thanks to Neopets creators D&A for that. So a lot of things is already done for you. The hard part, is trying to stand out and be unique.

The basic mechanisms of a petsite are already there for you. Create a pet, play games, restock items, have a shop, collect stuff. And there are a hundred and one petsites out there that offer all these same aspects. And, no doubt, they are important, but to me, as a player before Ichumon started, I'd seen it all before.

So with Ichumon, I knew I had some pretty cool ideas (like everyone else X)) but this was my first real... project to work on. I was a newbie in PHP, but I had been making websites since I was 11 :P I created Ichumon when I was 16, and the first version had some interesting ideas... it worked quite well, but it wasn't quality. We didn't have good attractive art, most of it was done by me. The layout was OK... but it didn't really attract everyone.

So then I teamed up with a friend, SuperTurtle aka James, and we worked together to create Ichumon V2. James supplied the funds, sorted out the staff and helped organize things. I worked on the site, coding every little inch of it, making tons of stuff to do. And then on August 1st 2008, we finally opened after 3-4 months of development. At the time of writing this, we are around 9-10 months old... and we have grown massively. We have a ton of new stuff, lots of new staff and I can't wait to see whats in store for Ichumon. ~ 14th May 2009

Developer's story

My first websites I created were fansites about Final Fantasy (which are a big influence in some of the things I code today). Back then, I had little to 0 knowledge of HTML, and used the Geocities pagebuilder to create pages. I played Neopets when I was around... 14 or so, and I had no idea there were other Virtual Pet Sites out there. It was only when I finally quit Neopets I discovered other VPS. And I played them for a veryyy long time, until one day I decided I was fed up with being the player :P

    [center] I will give it a 3 star out of 5.[br] I only had a few problems with the site:[br] [br] 1. I found the lack of a pet list to be rather frusterating. I even checked the fansites that they mentioned in the guid and found them unhelpful and even more confusing. [br] 2. The tree stump hotel irritated me. Most sites have hotels to feed and care for ones pets, though this site seems to do better for lack of one. The thing gives you a random effect that really doesnt do what I wish. I am not going to fork out iP ~There in game credits~ every single day, I do have a life. But at least they are WAY better than nutrinopets. Don't get me started on THAT pathetic site. [br] 3. Now like subeta they have human avatars or on ichumon they call them personas. I dont like the art for them, while realistic looking they kinda turn me off. I like Subeta's human avatars MUCH better. However on ichumon you can kill your persona, wows. Couldn't they have called them something else? Sounds too much like fursona, they dont look like furries to me! [br] ~[br] Over all I do like the site they have a better world map compared to the many I have seen, except Neopets, but then neopets is like gaia online. So I cant expect a newer site to have the funds like neopets and gaia. [br] I like the profile set up because of its simplicity, I dont have to mess around with columns like on subeta. I do like simplicity. This game in MY opinion is worth checking out and playing. So hurry and see for your self!!! [/center]
