Legend of the Green Dragon started life to the old BBS door game, Legend of the Red Dragon. Within its environs you'll find characters who are similar to those from that game, but many many more besides.

Game play is very similar to LoRD in that you explore the forest, kill monsters, and then gain levels in order to kill the dragon, be reborn and repeat the cycle, albeit against harder monsters and with a bit of a power boost yourself.

However, there are races, areas, and other modules which have been built which give this game a unique flavor. There are buffs which can be gotten to make fights easier (or harder if you encounter someone who curses you!) and many side things to do along the way.

Can YOU raise to the rank of Ultimate Dragon God? Come and find out!

Game Universe

The universe of LotGD is a bit whimsical. It is based loosely upon the same world that players from Legend of the Red Dragon knew, but has elements of both Eric's and my sense of humor throughout as well. It is light-hearted and fun rather than dark and gritty and over time the world has been peopled with various figures who have contributed significantly to either Eric's or my server.

Game Goals

My goal for this game is for it to be and to remain a place where players can come, have fun, meet people and interact with others who are willing to play in a mature and reasonable fashion. I would be happy to see the number of players grow, but that has never been my primary concern.

Development

The first version of game was initially written by Eric. JT came along about a year later and discovered many problems and misfeatures as he went about setting up his server at Dragoncat. He fixed many of these problems and rewrote some of the core systems to make them more robust and soon became fast friends with Eric and the major contributor besides Eric to the code. With the advent of the pluggable module system that allowed third-party people to extend the game in a very easy fashion, JT became a co-author of the code and between him and Eric continued developing it until it was solid and stable.

Both JT and Eric have since moved on to active development of other things, but they both maintain their own sites for LotGD and enjoy seeing the community that has grown up around what they built.

Developer's story

I have been a gamer since I was a kid. I grew up on the BBS's and playing Legend of the Red Dragon as well as other games of that ilk and then grew up on the internet when I went to college. I've been an active developer for over 20 years both personally and professionally and have worked on many of the MUD systems out there. LotGD, however, has been one of the most fun games to have worked on and I'm thrilled by how well-enjoyed it is.
