Game: CLAUDIO ONE spying game December 28, 2010 11:01 am GMT by FalconRime |
Claudio One returns as a spying game
Claudio One started life in 2004 as a free online hacking simulation game. Although popular, early in 2009 it closed its doors to new players due to the personal circumstances of its owner. Its core player community, sad at this loss, re-imagined what this game could become. They wanted it to move to a new level - offering more tension, more interaction, more strategic possibilities. Over the months several ideas were discussed and discarded, others were even developed into prototypes and again discarded. But one idea eventually shone through.
The simple idea was to evolve the game into a spying game, played in rounds. The back story describes a world of island nations where travel between them is difficult leading to suspicion between their peoples and governments. Fearful of the others, each nation has started construction of nuclear weapons to destroy the others. If you want to survive you will have to do the same and complete your construction programme before they do.
The game is characterised by a simple technology tree to build, each step of which constructs a part of your nuclear weapons or the rockets that carry them. You use engineers to build and operate the facilities that do this. But in addition, what makes the game more engaging, is that you can train spies to send to the other players' islands to steal their secrets and to damage their factories and mines. These spies are no match in a straight fight with enemy guards, but by hiding, sneaking and lying in wait for the right opportunities they can really set back an enemy's construction programme.
It is very early days for this new incarnation of Claudio One, but early interest has been keen. Why not join them?
